Erewash Labour gets results - big win at Lacemaker Court

The Erewash Labour team and I had a big win today, getting repairs done and a maintenance plan put in place for residents at Lacemaker Court.

A couple of weeks ago, residents at the Lacemaker Court extra care property in Long Eaton contacted me about all manner of issues they were having – their home was in need of lots of repairs, the lift was broken and residents had been told it’d take months to fix.

Councillor Joel Bryan and I went to visit the residents, noted down all the issues, had a few conversations with the Shadow Minister for Social Care, Liz Kendall MP, and contacted the property management company.

Two weeks later, the lift has been repaired and there’s a firm, dated plan in place to address the other maintenance issues that haven’t yet been fixed.

These are the results you can expect from Labour councillors and a Labour MP. This is why we got into politics in the first place – to help people solve problems. This problem should have been solved by the current MP – the MP we pay through our taxes to solve these problems – but the residents told me that when they tried to contact her, they didn’t even get a response.

And, of course, there is more to do – getting the repair plan in place has been a huge win for the residents, but Joel and I can’t fix the elephant in the room that the residents raised – the massive increases in bills that they are facing from the cost of living crisis.

To fix that problem, we’ll need a Labour Government. This Government has lost control of the economy, and pensioners in extra care centres are having to cancel their care arrangements to pay their bills. It’s disgusting that the Tories have let this happen, and it’s down to all of us to fix their mess.
