20's Plenty fast enough for us on residential roads
The 20’s Plenty campaign aims to set the default speed limit in residential areas to 20 mph – I’ve made a short video explaining it, which you can see below.
Where speeds are reduced to 20mph through traffic calming, casualties fall by around two-fifths, which I feel alone is enough to justify the policy. However, the cost savings to the public from a reduction in costs associated to injuries and fatalities easily justifies the small cost of implementing the policy, and the impact on journey time is almost non-existent. See here for more info.
To me, this idea is a no brainer – let’s put 20’s Plenty in place right now.
